READ the README.DOC file first!!!!
----------------------------------
Harddrive Users (READ - IMPORTANT INSTALL INFORMATION WITHIN!)
--------------------------------------------------------------
Method 1
--------
To make this even easier in DF0:Utilities are two scripts that I have
since added for this release. Install_To_Harddrive and
Remove_From_Harddrive (surprisingly) do as they say!
However, DirectoryOpus is one program that I forgot installs it's own C,
Libs etc drawers with the main icon. As this is terribly untidy you have
to use DirectoryOpus to copy each of the files to the main C and Libs etc
directories (probably in DH0:). UPDATE ALL THE FILES if any co-exist! You
can then delete the old drawers, and the install script is ready for use.
Method 2
--------
If you want the files to remain where they are then the script will still
work and everything will be fine. However, you will need to do the
DirectoryOpus.CFG bit manually. First rename the DirectoryOpus.CFG in the
DirectoryOpus drawer's S: directory to DirectoryOpus.CFG1
Now boot the disk and run the install script. When done boot your
harddrive and drag or use installed Directory Opus to move the CFG file
from DH0:S/ to Directory Opus's S:. Now you will have two config files in
the same drawer - but only DirectoryOpus.CFG will be executed.
Method 3 - Think you're clever do you?
--------------------------------------
You can copy the ParNET files manually if you require. The scripts do the
same thing though. See File.Doc for a list of the ParNET files that are
necessary for success.
NOTE: on ParNET HD:S/ there is another file called
DirectoryOpus.CFG(Floppy_Disk). This is for use with Floppy users - so
don't worry about it! The DirectoryOpus.CFG is for harddisk use and
consequently should be installed.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
And finally...
--------------
Document files by default are told to look for DF0:Utilities/More.
Therefore if you wish them to be installed on harddrive you need to edit
the icon using Information on the Workbench menu (or Directory Opus) to
read DH0:Utilities/More. Copying of DF0:Utilities/More to DH0:Utilities is
taken care of by the install.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Harddrive - The 'old' and nasty method
--------------------------------------
The old method used a 'window' to access a NET: and this was an inefficient
method as when you copied not everything would come back as it was
originally. I have still retained this feature and it is possible to still
use the main NET: window.
When a ParNET link is set up, regardless of whether DOpus is running click
on DH0:System/Shell. A window will appear which allows you to
initialise the devices you want to be accessed through the 'window'. At
present nothing is available. Type in the Shell window: CD NET:DH0/
[RETURN] or lazily CD NET:DH0 [RETURN]. Now if you access the NET:
'window' and select SHOW ALL FILES from WB then you should see a partition
drawer called DH0: which you can click on, - the other machine's DH0:
partition.
It doesn't end there. CD NET:CD0/ [RETURN] will create a drawer allowing
access to the other machine's CD ROM drive (ie a CD32+SX1 or a Zappo CDROM
Drive). CD NET:DH1/ will allow access to the other machine's DH1
partition. You initialise them as you require them.
In fact this is what Directory Opus does via my configuration devices.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Floppy Users
------------
This disk has been setup so that you can access a NET: without having to
necessarily install ParNET to a harddrive first in order to see how
effective it is. However, if you did decide it's easier to install and
then disliked it - then that's what 'Remove_From_Harddrive' is for.
To be honest as ParNET is meant for use with two harddrives it isn't really
as much use if you don't have them. However, you can set up a link between
another computer and ParNET data can still be dumped (using Directory Opus)
to floppy disk. You can also treat an SX1/CD32 as a CDROM from an A1200.
You can get DirectoryOpus and ParNET HD to work from floppy easily if you
have two drives.
Method 1 - DF0: and DF1: Users
------------------------------
1. Firstly make backups of ParNET HD and Directory Opus disks.
2. Boot the Host with the backup ParNET HD disk.
3. Next insert the backup of Directory Opus into the Host's DF1: and click
on the icon. Directory Opus looks for the files it needs on ParNET HD
to run and will boot up a ParNET configuration. Use Directory Opus and
access DF0:S/.
You should get DirectoryOpus.CFG and DirectoryOpus.CFG(Floppy_Disk). This
is because the harddrive setup is DEFAULT for use with my Install routines
in Utilities.
4. Rename DirectoryOpus.CFG to DirectoryOpus(Harddrive).
5. Rename DirectoryOpus.CFG(Floppy_Disk) to DirectoryOpus.CFG.
(Reverse this if you want to use with a harddrive later - else you will
get a floppy configuration installed. Or use the original disk.).
6. Now Quit Directory Opus and then run it again. You will now get a
configuration that allows floppy drive use.
As a result you can now:
1. Boot DF0: ParNET Harddrive disk
2. Boot DF1: Directory Opus
3. Click on Directory Opus and initialise a ParNET link from there.
Method 2 - DF0: Only Users
--------------------------
For those with one drive follow as above, but where DF1: swop disks and
continue the procedure until requested otherwise by the computer.
